= интеркаляты[лат. intercalatio — вставка, добавка; лат. agens (agentis) — действующий]молекулы, способные встраиваться (интеркалировать) между двумя комплементарными парами оснований в двуспиральной ДНК или РНК. Интеркаляция вызывает изменения в топологии ДНК (раскручивание), что ведет к мутациям и влияет на функции ДНК (она перестает транскрибироваться или реплицироваться). И.а. обычно являются мутагенами или канцерогенами, они часто используются в эксперименте для обнаружения ДНК и РНК путем окрашивания или разделения форм ДНК с различной топологией при центрифугировании в градиенте плотности.
